CBCT Scanning for Accurate 3-D Images
A CBCT Scan is a digital scanner designed to view the teeth and jaws to create a three- dimensional view of dental structures, tissue, nerve pathways, and bone in just one scan. The cone shaped beam provides data that can be formatted to produce 3D volume images that can be used for advanced planning and diagnostic support. This is especially useful for planning dental procedures such as surgery for impacted teeth, reconstructive surgery, root canal procedures and most importantly, accurately placing dental implants.
A CBCT Scan also provides an accurate image of the maxillary sinus and its position in relation to the available bone necessary for implant placements. This is information is crucial to accurately measure and select the right implant to avoid misdiagnosis and possibly affecting the maxillary sinus which can lead to sinusitis or other inflammatory conditions.
CBCT scanners have also found many other uses in dentistry, specifically in the fields of endodontics (root canal therapy) and orthodontics (braces and clear aligners). With access to this increased level of technology, dentists as well as specialists are able to treatment plan and diagnose with more accurate results.
